THE SOFT MOON • CRIMINAL TOUR: SOUNDCHECK

THE SOFT MOON • CRIMINAL TOUR 2019: SOUNDCHECK
Thalia Hall Chicago
Thursday 1/24/19

Luis Vasquez and his band the Soft Moon arrived in the late afternoon on Thursday at Thalia Hall to get good and ready for that evening’s headlining performance at Thalia Hall in Chicago.
Along with openers HIDE and Thoom, it’s a great triple bill that certainly brings a sonic one two punch to the masses.
Had the pleasure of shooting soundcheck with Luis Vasquez and his bandmates Matteo Vallicelli on drums and electronic percussion, and Luigi Vallicelli on Bass.
Thalia Hall is a unique and splendid building in the heart of Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood, and the interior listening room has to be seen (and heard) to be believed.
The antiquated feel of the place has a wonderful charm to it, the sightlines for a show, whether on the main floor or up in the balcony are not distracting at all, and the sound and lighting are truly sophisticated and up to date.
I bring this up because having photographed in the venue since it’s opening, and having The Soft Moon playing at Thalia for the second time now, the buildup to cranking out a couple songs to fine tune things at soundcheck is a wonder in itself.
Nothing like being in a venue like Thalia Hall, with a handful of people present, and hearing Luis and his band play a couple songs.
Memorable to say the least.
Special thanks go to Denise Pearl Stein providing extra photography for the JBTV Music Television review, and to Luis Vasquez permitting us to photograph soundcheck.
