Sons of the Silent Age are back again at the Metro Chicago to perform selections from David Bowie’s “Berlin” trilogy and more additional cuts, with a very special guest in actor Michael Shannon performing as Iggy Pop.
That says it in a nutshell right there: Michael Shannon in the middle of Sons of the Silent Age’s set- barnstorming through four cuts of Iggy Pop- the highlight of which was of course Iggy’s famous tune “Lust For Life”.
You can tell that Michael relished in diving deep into the role of Iggy Pop- squirming across the stage shirtless, manic, convulsing and contorting his body with reckless abandon.
Terrifying and renegade intensity: You have no choice when performing as Iggy. Iggy takes the stage with unpredictable behavior and the force of a bulldog- always.
It’s obvious that Michael Shannon knows this in spades, by simply looking at the photos in this blog post.
As far as Sons of the Silent Age, and the whipsmart band fronted by Chris Connelly and drummer Matt Walker: Tighter and on point more than ever.
I hate calling them a cover band: truly these guys are more than that, paying tribute to their idol David Bowie.
It’s not easy covering the complexity of David Bowie- let alone covering the Berlin trilogy of “Low”, “Heroes” and “Lodger”.
They clearly dived in neck deep to relish in a labor of love, with a pristine level of musicianship that was breathtaking to behold.
A splendid night of awesome Bowie music, with Iggy Pop thrown in.
If anyone is suited and dressed up to do justice to Bowie’s music- it’s definitely these guys.
