THE SHACKS
THE SHACKS at JBTV
JBTV Music Television Chicago
Tuesday 5/15/18
Max Shrager and Shannon Wise of The Shacks, from New York, New York. The Shacks: a dreamy blend of early rock, vintage soul, with intimately hushed vocals courtesy of Shannon Wise.
And playing an intimate set at JBTV Music Television in Chicago.
Now that’s what I call cool.
The story goes that Max Shrager, principal guitarist and songwriter for The Shacks, brought Shannon Wise into the studio. Max was playing guitar on a track produced by Leon Michels- the producer and co founder of Big Crown Records – and Michels needed a vocalist. They Put Shannon Wise in the booth to try her out. It was her first time ever recording anything. Then, in one take, the song “Strange Boy” had a definite singer in Shannon, who completed the vibe they were looking for, and The Shacks were born.
The Shacks are more than just your normal go through the motions kinda band.
They have a style and vibe more akin to the ’50’s, a time when music was really special and simple, and oh so retro / cool.
Like all songs with The Shacks, the duo pared down the production and added oh so graceful singing / songwriting to the mix, and it shows in their live performance from JBTV Studios in Chicago.
You clearly see that Max and Shannon love what they do, down to the matching psycobilly outfits for the band members, except Shannon of course.
She’s in a white / silvery sparkly jumpsuit, akin to the same timeframe of the ’50’s as well.
The Shacks: a wise, whispery intimate rock n’ roll band with a subtle mix of Motown, folk, psychedelic rock and a dash of funk.
A cool band to witness live and in person.
Check them out when you get a chance.
You won’t be disappointed.
