ACTORS
Live Taping from JBTV Music Television Chicago
Monday 9/24/18
My new favorite band- ACTORS.
A band that encompasses Post Punk? Or better yet- how about Post Post Punk.
You hear everything with them- too many bands to mention, but The Horrors come to mind, even a bit of The Chameleons UK, some Suicide…you get the picture.
And this is of the highest compliments that i mention the above bands. Shows that these guys have good taste.
And to have them play an intimate show on our state of the art JBTV soundstage..well- that’s everything.
And you couldn’t ask for a nicer bunch of people:
Jason Corbett on Vox / Guitar, Shannon Hemmett on Synth & Vox, Jahmeel Russell on Bass & Vox, and Adam Fink on Drums.
Lots of crafty and chimey songs, not one bad one in the bunch, both on their new album, and live an in person.
Let’s proceed on what I believe is Jason’s take on the band: The Jason Corbett- led ACTORS are standing on the shoulders of titans with their brand of the style (picture dark leather, lots of chorus mid song, and guitar pedals), plus distortion and some jarring guitar punch thrown in the mix, and- here we go- could almost be referred to as “Post-Post-Punk”.
In a period where we narrowcast rather than broadcast so fans and new music seekers can firmly plant themselves in a niche, Corbett takes swings at creating sounds and production techniques that one would not usually find in a starter package of cliche plug ins and samples, let alone “Been there- done that”. Backed by a stoic yet playful backing band, Corbett shows an enthusiasm while performing and recording that often isn’t seen or heard in his preferred genre.
Now we’re almost complete.
At JBTV, they played an almost full set, over 12 songs or so, and yes- Jason Corbett and his band mates were spot on, fun to watch, extraordinary to listen to live, and a blast to photograph.
One of our best shows of the year, without a doubt.
And that’s saying something.
