P I G – HELL TO PAY … IN THE USA
P I G – HELL TO PAY … IN THE USA
North American Tour 2018
with: Curse Mackey, Project. 44, and DJ Scary Lady Sarah
Bottom Lounge Chicago 9/30/18
Raymond Watts of P I G – The Lord of the Lard, the sultan of swine, the prince of pork, brings his most unruly band and gnarly (yet fresh) tunes to the Bottom Lounge in Chicago on a Sunday night.
A show for the most desperate and depraved, served up in abundance with glam and flash and pizzazz and showmanship times ten.
An explosion of silvery fringe, bathed in a mood of bright red light.
Even in a cozy venue such as the Bottom Lounge, Raymond Watts works the stage, and lathers up the audience, doing his best to makes things most unruly.
A show for the unforgiven, that is essence P I G.
Keep in mind, Raymond Watts is a commanding presence, over 6 feet tall, and when he swings that microphone stand into the audience for some submissive sing alongs, it feels the microphone is going all the way to the back of the venue, unruly, over the audience’s heads.
My opinion, the more uncomfortable everyone feels standing still, and the more awkward things get, the better.
Makes for great photography, everyone stunned, not knowing what to expect next.
Raymond Watts and <PIG>. You’re rewarded righteously and painfully.
All in a good way, with mayhem the underbelly of a P I G show.
Opener and multi- instrumentalist Curse Mackey: So glad to have him perform back in Chicago.
Curse brings his dark and ambient beats to a transfixed audience, bathed mostly in dark blue light, with a rig that was literally set up last minute, with a black gauze surrounding the podium, and his obvious and passionate enthusiasm to his creations.
The new material he has composed, (which was the bulk of his set), still spells the transient doom, with the sinister and addictive synth pulsations, with his ever apparent vocals and commanding presence front and center.
Have been blessed to photograph Curse quite a few times over the years, and have to say, with a supergroup like Pigface, or solo, Curse is captivating and a pleasure to witness live, let alone photographing him.
His sonic improvisations never disappoint, and I for one totally dig the mood and vibe.
As for Chris Harris and Sean Payne, with opening set of Project. 44, and off into Conformco together to end their set: even when spur of the moment, both with visuals and full band: this makes for a great opening set to get everyone in the mood with industrial dance and swing.
Their set draws on the industrial music we know and love, and nice to know that both Chris and Sean are bathed in it – neck deep.
And finally to have Scary Lady Sarah DJ ing throughout the night, only enhances the overall cool vibe, with sophisticated choices and nuggets of the music we appreciate deep down in our souls.
