THE JESUS LIZARD: A 35TH ANNIVERSARY METRO EVENT
A Metro Chicago 35th Anniversary Celebration
with Dead Rider
Saturday Dec 9th 2017
The mighty Jesus Lizard return to Chicago’s Metro with guns blazing.
It didn’t take very long for David Yow to launch himself into the crowd when onstage: all but about 10 seconds elapsed. I was stage left / audience right for the first few songs, and noticed that David had intentionally left his price tag on his shirt: it read from “Goodwill: $4.99”.
There ya go. A long sleeved grey and black striped shirt that has all but maybe surviving the first few songs before getting destroyed.
Eight long years have past since the noise rock band – one of the most brilliant and yet punishing live acts of the past 30 some odd years have gotten together after disbanding in 1999.
David, as told to a reporter in the Wall Street J
ournal no less, said he’d been exercising like a dog for months to get in tip top shape for this mini reunion tour of sorts: and everything is fine and dandy except losing the beer gut.
It didn’t matter. Half the show, David was bodysurfing and tumbling into the crowd, with Duane Denison providing jackhammer guitar riffs from beginning to end.
The band is as tight as ever, playing with a snarling and nasty menace to the pounding beat of Mac Mcneilly on drums, and David Wm. Sims providing a steady and forceful bass.
Yes- The Jesus Lizard still wins in spades, and stakes its claim as one of the mightiest live acts in the world.
As of now- no one comes close to knocking them off this mantle.
