FEE LION
FEE LION, From the Taste of Chicago 2018
Goose Island Stage
Grant Park Chicago
Saturday 7/14/18
Electro Pop chanteuse Justina Kairyte (FEE LION) graced the Goose Island Stage from the Taste of Chicago on a sweltering summer afternoon, and I have to say, she still can captivate, either with the sun out, or in a dark and cavernous night club.
To play your kind of dark and moody and captivating music in the afternoon, solo mind you, is no easy feat.
But as Justina Kairyte is still gaining more confidence in her stage presence, and feel free from the restrictions and shackles of set times, added with consistent performances, the bottom line: let the music do the talking, everything else will follow along accordingly.
For those not in the know: Justina Kairyte (FEE LION) is a multi – faceted singer- songwriter, who by all means, is in my opinion hard to classify.
Yes, her music has elements of post punk with heavy backbeats, and you also hear heavy synth laden Darkwave elements as well.
Justina manipulates drum processions and breakbeats through her guitar pedals, mixing with synth loops and some sultry vocal to achieve her captivating sounds and sonic luster.
It’s such a treat for me to watch an artist develop such as FEE LION from the ground up, and hearing her other worldly songcraft get more and more mysterious and beautiful over time.
Obviously with FEE LION, experimentation is the key.
To come up with texturally provocative and meaningful melodies is not as easy as it looks.
Trust me when I say that over time, you’re going to hear more from FEE LION, and the world will be a better place for it.
