WOLF ALICE – at JBTV MUSIC TELEVISION
Chicago
5/4/15
North London’s Wolf Alice from JBTV Music Television in Chicago, Hosted by 101 WKQX and Music Director at 101WKQX Walter Flakus.
A British four piece that are one minute vibrant, melodic and eclectic – the next minute full on explosive, mysterious and dark.
It’s reassuring to see a band like this first arrive in the states and display a craftsmanship that is wise beyond their years.
Formed by the guitar arsenal of lead singer Ellie Roswell and Jeff Oddie, with Theo Ellis on bass and Joel Amey on drums – their sound is truly in the mold of what “Indie” is all about: An amalgamation of off kilter rock, sophisticated pop, a little grunge, and add your own title here.
What I love about JBTV Music Television and specifically its Music Director Greg Corner, is diving in head first and getting bands like Wolf Alice to appear on our stage in Chicago before their big break.
Makes it oh so special for the 100 or so in attendance to get the opportunity to witness a cool band like Wolf Alice up close and personal before it’s too late.
Ellie Roswell has a bewitching voice and can wield her guitar with vigor and poise.
She switches between two microphones to emphasize intimate singing into full on shrieking delirium with effects and feedback that leaves you in utter bewilderment.
Wolf Alice has progressed rapidly from their debut at JBTV, from playing small bars to theatres to festivals.
This is a band that knows how to suck you in to their private and eclectic world.
Wolf Alice. A band that deserves your attention immediately.
