DECIBEL MAGAZINE TOUR 2018 with ENSLAVED
DECIBEL MAGAZINE TOUR 2018 with ENSLAVED, WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM, MYRKUR AND KHEMMIS
Metro Chicago
Friday 2/23/18
Decibel Magazine, the extreme music publication based out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, never disappoints when it comes to its annual winter foray into all things “Dark Metal”.
On this year’s bill: the mighty Norwegians Enslaved, with support from Wolves in the Throne Room, Myrkur and Khemmis.
To have this tour come through the mighty Metro in Chicago courtesy of Empire Productions, makes this boy quite happy I tell ya.
A nearly packed venue witnessed the awesome display of Enslaved, firing off with their new song “Storm Sun” – fronted by main players Grutle Kjellson and Ivar Bjornson- an epic 12 minute display of mighty Norwegian Metal with solid melody throughout.
Would’ve loved to have gotten some shots of drummer Cato Bekkevold- but alas- he’s still buried behind a massive kit that makes shooting him live next to impossible, either from the pit or the balcony.
No matter. A pleasure always hearing these guys play live whenever they come through Chicago.
Wolves in the Throne Room. I mean Jesus, do they bring the heavy in their performances- a mix of Doom and punishing Black Metal – times ten. A solid live act with chops to spare.
Myrkur. Can’t get enough of Amalie Bruun and her band Myrkur. Way too short of a set- but what we heard and saw- was enthralling as ever. What a memorable performance! And to walk off the stage to the sounds of the band Dead can Dance – only adds to the mystery and wonderment that is Myrkur.
Khemmis. A band that plays with great emotion and dexterity, even if they only play just 4 songs in their set. A band from Colorado with a bright future ahead of them.
So their you have it on a cold February night- another successful Decibel Magazine Tour in Chicago for the books.
