FRONT 242 with COCKSURE and WINGTIPS
Cold Waves Festival presents:
FRONT 242 with COCKSURE and WINGTIPS
Metro Chicago
Fri 4/13/18
An epic show from the one and only Metro Chicago:
Trailblazing industrial pioneers Front 242, with Jason Novak and Chris Connelly of Cocksure, along with WINGTIPS.
From beginning to end, an extraordinary show of unique musicianship and intense and IN – YOUR – FACE performances.
Front 242: A musical sieve – if there ever was one. This band, consisting of mainstay members Jean- Luc De Meyer, Patrick Codenys, Daniel Bressanutti and Richard 23, along with drummer Tim Kroker, have consistently proven themselves that no one comes close to their sound and aesthetic- over and over again – in live performance, both musically and visually.
Like true heavyweight fighters throwing constant haymakers in a 12 round bout- they’re enthusiasm for staying fresh and slaying the masses has never wavered.
Everything is urgent with this band, and to the point in regards to a sense of release and escape from this confounding and confusing world we live in.
Jean- Luc De Meyer and Richard 23 let it be known – especially during the mighty song “Headhunter”, that technically everyone participates, audience to band – front of house to the main stage.
Song after song truly has this kind of vibe with their devoted following.
And to come back to play at the one and only Metro Chicago- after so many years of playing here, with so many memorable shows under their belt from this venue…Front 242 never sounded better and more urgent- and definitely more needed.
Jason Novak and Chris Connelly of Cocksure- still sound like a battering ram for the masses- a band that exposes all things corrupt and out of control in this wicked world we live in.
Truly through their music and message- they want to right the ship, but alas, it’s so off course with what we’re experiencing in this day and age, that it’s next to impossible to correct the actions of our leaders and government as a whole.
Which leads to obviously more songs and lyrics of imbeciles to skewer and be held accountable.
Cocksure. A band with an urgent message for out times- and a rebellious attitude at its heart.
And Vincent Segretario and Hannah Avalon of WINGTIPS.
Another band that I can truly say I need to see and hear more of.
A steady and slow build of all things atmospheric and moody electronica.
Between Vincent’s gorgeous voice and shimmering layers of guitar playing, and Hannah’s pulsating and sweeping keyboard playing with occasional guitar accompaniment- you have a sound that sucks you in and let’s you drift away in a dreamlike state.
Have to say it was a splendid evening of music that is much needed for this music photographer.
Cheers- Bobby Talamine – Music Photographer
